Sedum dendroideum plant

Sedum dendroideum is commonly known as the tree stonecrop or the false hens-and-chickens. It is a shrub-like perennial plant that looks much like its Sempervivum look-alike. Moreover native to Mexico, Sedum dendroideum plant thrives in warm, arid climates, as well as in cooler climates. Furthermore it has been naturalized to California, and Ohio. In traditional Brazilian medicine, the fresh juice from the leaves of the tree stonecrop plant is used for the treatment of gastric and inflammatory disorders. Moreover in 2005, a medical research paper was released studying its uses and finding it had antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects in mice.

Sedum dendroideum plant is a small succulent shrub with shiny green spoon-shaped leaves that cluster at the tips of the branches. In addition it grows up to 3 feet (90 cm) tall and up to 4 feet (1.2 m) wide. Besides leaves have a line of subepidermal glands along the margins that can be red in summer. They are up to 1.6 inches (2.8 cm) long. The large clusters of small star-shaped vivid yellow flowers appear above the foliage in late winter and early spring. Lastly this species is often confused with Sedum praealtum, which has no such glands, and leaves tend to be more yellow-green.

Ornamental uses

Due to their appearance and hardiness, like many plants in the sedum family, tree stonecrop are cultivated as garden plants. Furthermore in winter, its leaves turn red.
