Aralia Plant (Variegated)
Description of Aralia
Aralia plant (variegated) known as spikenard, belong to the Araliaceae family and encompass a diverse group of 68 species. They range from deciduous or evergreen trees to shrubs and rhizomatous herbaceous perennials, native to Asia and the Americas. They thrive in mountain woodlands. Moreover these plants vary greatly in size; some herbaceous types grow only up to 50 cm (20 in) tall, while others become towering trees reaching heights of 20 m (66 ft). Aralia plants are characterized by large bipinnate (doubly compound) leaves clustered at the ends of their stems or branches, often bristled in some species. Besides some woody varieties have prickly stems, such as Aralia spinosa.
Furthermore their flowers, typically whitish or greenish, appear in terminal panicles, followed by spherical dark purple berry-like fruits that are favored by birds. Historically, the variegated Aralia has been used in traditional medicine for its aromatic root, resembling parsley in taste and serving as a diuretic.
