Black Varnish Plant
Description of Black Varnish
Almost always grown for its bold and distinctive foliage, Black Varnish is an ideal statement plant in any setting. The large glossy almost black oval leaves look fabulous when paired with intensely bright blooms or lime green foliage. Plants will put up a flower spike with small bright pink flowers. It is a tropical plant and should not taken into the outdoor garden until temperatures are consistently warm. It should also be moved back indoors when night time temperatures cool towards fall. Such tropical plants do not like to be chilled and will certainly not tolerate any frost. While outdoors, the plant is an excellent specimen plant; planted in an attractive container it will become a focal point with its glossy foliage and bold dark colour — the higher the exposure the darker the foliage color will be.

Specification of Black Varnish Plant
- Dark Foliage: The leaves of the Black Varnish are glossy and almost black in color, which gives it a striking appearance. The dark coloration is contrasted by prominent silver or metallic veins that run through the leaves, adding to its visual appeal.
- Velvet Texture: The leaves have a velvety texture, which is where the common name “Black Velvet Alocasia” originates. This texture enhances the plant’s aesthetic and makes it a tactile pleasure to touch.
- Compact Size: Compared to some other Alocasia species, Alocasia reginula tends to stay relatively compact, making it suitable for indoor spaces where larger plants might not fit.
- Easy Care: While it prefers bright, indirect light and consistent moisture, the Black Varnish plant is generally considered to be easier to care for compared to some other Alocasia varieties. It can adapt well to typical indoor conditions with proper attention to watering and humidity levels.
- Aesthetic Appeal: The combination of dark, velvety leaves and silver veins gives the Black Varnish a sophisticated and elegant appearance that can add a touch of drama to any indoor setting.
