Species is appreciated because of the long harmless golden spines. The young plants are globular, then columnar up to 1m tall, 12 cm diameter and about 30 ribs. Old plants cluster from the base. Parodia magnifica, a flowering plant belonging to the Cactaceae family and native to southern Brazil, is known as one of the ball cactus species. It typically reaches heights of 7 to 15 cm (3 to 6 in) and spreads up to 45 cm (18 in) wide. Its stems are heavily ribbed, ranging from spherical to columnar in shape, covered with spines and fine hairs. During the summer months, it produces pale yellow flowers. This cactus thrives in cool, dry temperate grasslands, often found at elevations of up to 800 m (2,600 ft).
