Hoya ‘Super Silver’: Plant Introduction

Hoya Super Silver, scientifically known as Hoya krohniana, is a species of flowering plant belonging to the Apocynaceae family.

It is renowned for its distinctive silver-speckled leaves, which give it a striking appearance.

While is commonly grown indoors but can also thrive in outdoor settings with the right conditions.

Hoya ‘Super Silver’ features thick, succulent-like leaves that are oval-shaped and slightly pointed at the tips.

The leaves are characterized by silver variegation, which contrasts beautifully against the dark green backdrop.

In addition, the plant may produce clusters of small, star-shaped flowers that emit a sweet fragrance.

 

Growing Conditions for Hoya ‘Super Silver’

Sunlight

  • Natural indirect or artificial bright light is ideal for Hoya growth.

Soil

  • Soil should be well drain and porus.

Watering

  • Poke your finger or plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
  • Apply 1 cup (Approx. 50 ml) water when the top soil (3-4 inch) in pot feels dry to touch.
  • Apply water probably in the morning or evening time.
  • Do not overwater the plant.
  • As a rule of thumb, water the plant thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.

Application of Fertilizer

  • Before application of fertilizer loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the plant and so it can uptake the nutrients and moisture.
  • During the main growing season (january-march) feed the plant with organic fertilizer once a month.
  • Apply water immediately after application of fertilizer.

Plant Protection

  • Remove dead and infected or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants.
  • For any insect attack or disease, use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.
  • Although, for heavy infestation use insecticide or fungicide as recommended.

Don’ts

  • Do not over water the plant especially when pot does not have drainage holes.
  • Also keep away from the AC Vents.
  • Do not apply water on plant leaves.

  • Keep the plant in Natural indirect /Artificial bright Light.
