Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant

Description of Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant

Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant is a compact clumping succulent with tight 4 inch wide rosettes of gray-green colored leaves that are broadest near the leaf tip. This tip has a small soft spine and is sometimes blushed red. Small dark yellow to slightly orange bell-shaped flowers rise above the foliage on several stalks from the center of the rosette in late winter into spring. Moreover plant in full coastal sun or light shade to shade inland in a well-drained soil. Hardy to around 20°F.

A common echeveria species with waxy light green, tightly packed leaves is the ‘Dondo’ echeveria. The leaves tend to be elongated oval and sometimes have a red tip. In addition the small rosette shape is very compact and produces a number of flowering stalks in late winter and early spring.

Furthermore the parentage of this plant is unclear as some list it as Echeveria derenbergii x E. runyonii while others as Echeveria derenbergii x E. setosa. There appear to be several very different plants in the trade using this name including plants with very green leaves that may also be called ‘Kircheriana’.

Planting and Care of Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant

Soil

  • Because cacti are also succulents, soil for cactus potting is also ideal for succulents. If growing in containers, make sure there are drainage holes in the bottom to allow water to drain from the soil. Soil that is constantly damp or doesn’t drain well results in echeveria root rot.

Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant  Watering

  • Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
  • Apply 1 cup (Approx. 50 ml) water when the top soil (3-4 inch) in pot feels dry to touch.
  • Besides apply water probably in the morning or evening time.
  • Furthermore do not overwater the plant.
  • Lastly as a rule of thumb, water the plant thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.

Echeveria ‘Dondo’ plant Temprature

  • Most Echeverias are non-hardy succulents and can’t survive cold temperatures. They prefer temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit and don’t like it when it drops below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
