Bougainvillea Care

These tropical climbers are suitable for large containers placed in the garden during summer but must be kept frost-free in winter.

Sunlight Full Sun. Bougainvillea needs at least 5 hours of direct sun light to bloom. The plants may have a nice growth with little or no blooms, if kept in shade or partial shade.
Watering

Water your plant regularly before the soil completely dries out. Keep containers moist but they also need to be well drained. Do not use saucers under your pots. A healthy container grown plant will need large amount of water during the warm seasons. In cold temperatures or when you bring your plants indoors for the winter, the water requirement will be much less.

Soil Well-drained and fertile.
Temperature Temperature between 24-30° C is ideal for optimum growth and flowering. Young growth will be damaged by frost. A light frost may cause the leaves and bracts to fall off. In this case, the plant will re-grow, if not subjected to more frosts for longer duration.
Fertilizer

A slow release organic fertilizer constantly available will fulfill your plant nutrition requirements. Mature plants can be heavy feeders. High phosphorus with micro nutrients, as well as additional iron and magnesium. Do not apply fertilizers to dry soil. Do not over fertilize, in this case less is better than more.
