Planting And Care
For watering, allow the top 2-3″ to dry between watering to ensure the plant isn’t sitting in soil that is too wet. During the winter, Alocasia will go through a dormancy period and will require less frequent watering as the soil will take longer to dry.
Light Requirement
Bright indirect light
Soil
- loose well draining and crumbly loam
Watering
- They are water-loving plants.
- There is a fine line with these plants.
- You want to keep the soil moist, but not soggy.
- They require less water during the winter months because the plant is dormant.
Application of Fertilizer
Alocasias are very heavy feeders, and fertilizing alocasia plants frequently is the only way to keep up with their appetite. Before planting your alocasias, mix 2 pounds of slow release fertilizer per 100 square feet (9.3 square meters) of soil. Keep up regular fertilization every two to four weeks.
Re-potting
Repot Alocasia varieties annually into larger pots with fresh, free-draining potting soil. Also, it’s best to divide the rhizome annually to keep the plant a manageable size and increase your collection.
