Calathea zebrina plant
Description of Calathea zebrina plant
There are many species in the Calathea plant family, but one of the most popular is the calathea zebra plant or Calathea zebrina plant. Calathea zebra plants are natives of Brazil and their bright green leaves can be boldly striped in white, yellow or pink in a striking feather-like pattern that is sure to catch the eye. These stripes are contrasted by lighter green or sometimes silvery green markings, resembling the stripes of a zebra, hence its common name. The leaves of Calathea zebrina are the standout feature of this plant. They are elongated ovals with distinct patterns of alternating dark green and light green stripes running perpendicular to the central vein. The undersides of the leaves are usually a deep purple or burgundy color, adding to the plant’s overall visual appeal.

Planting And Care
Wet feet is probably the major cause of failure when growing calathea zebrina plant indoors. A lack of water, however, will cause leaves to curl. Humidity is the next problem to be conquered when growing zebras indoors. Plants should be misted several times a week. If the environment is particularly dry, which often occurs during the winter months, rest the pot on a shallow tray filled with gravel and fill the tray with water without its touching the pot. One of the first signs of low humidity is brown edges along the leaves. The leaves of Calathea zebrina are large, elongated ovals with a distinct pattern of dark green stripes running parallel along the length of the leaf.
