Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’

Description

This reddish-colored rosette succulent with very thick leaves grows well via leaf propagation. The compact rosettes of Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’  are similar to Echeveria. Watch for white blossoms in the Spring. Besides this hardy plant stands temperatures down to −10 °C. What’s more if it is sheltered from rain and too much humidity, it is easy to grow in temperate climates. It is readily propagated by cutting leaves or stems. In addition it supports both full sun and partial shade. Besides watering should be avoided in the event of excessive heat. It is often used as an ornamental plant in gardens.

The Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’ plant has a spreading and creeping habit that reaches 20 cm high by 60 cm wide. In addition it’s appearance may vary depending on the soil and the exposure. Furthermore the hanging rod can reach up to 2 m in length and a thickness of 2 cm. What’s more green to light grey leaves can be up to 7 cm long and 3 cm wide. Lastly thick and fleshy, they are arranged in a spiral around the stem and are very easily detached from the rosette and that is why this plant has been nicknamed “porcelain succulent”.

Sunlight

  • It grows well in bright indirect sunlight.

Soil

  • Soil should be well drain and porus.

Watering for Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’

  • Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.
  • Apply 1 cup (Approx. 50 ml) water when the top soil (3-4 inch) in pot feels dry to touch.
  • Apply water probably in the morning or evening time.
  • Do not overwater the Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’  plant.
  • As a rule of thumb, water the plant thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.

Application of fertilizer

  • Before application of fertilizer loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’ plant so it can uptake the nutrients and moisture.
