Pachyphytum Compactum ‘Little Jewel’ – Succulent
Succulent Description
Pachyphytum compactum is an attractive succulent that forms rosettes of 30 to 80, mostly congested leaves. Stems are often basally branched, has thick, balloon like, dark green leaves with heavy white veins and deep purple tips. Leaves are thick, fleshy, tubular and pointed at tip. Flowers appear in late spring. This plant can be grown from leaf cuttings. Pull a leaf from the main stem, leave it to dry for a day, then place it in soil. It is a matte blue-green but can show tinges of violet when gently stressed by full sun, drought or cold temperature.
Succulent care
Light:
Thrives best in full sun to light shade.
In indoor an east or west-facing window where the succulent will receive four to six hours of sunlight is ideal.
Can tolerate high heat and intense sunlight.
Soil:
Grows well in a well-drained succulent mix, with an ideal pH around 6.0 (slightly acidic) or an equal part sharp sand with all-purpose potting mix.
Pachyphytum can tolerate poor soils but needs well draining soils.
Water:
Avoid getting water on the leaves.
Avoid overwatering
This succulent will require more water in winter because of it’s active growth period.
Water the plant only if you see lower leaves getting dried.
Pests and Diseases:
It has no serious pest or disease problems. Mealybugs can be a problem, and if dead leaves are not expelled from the plant, it can attract other insect pests or have problems with fungus.
